SOUTH BEND - Robert B. Osthimer of Granger, Indiana passed away August 15, 2017 after a brief illness. Bob was born in 1931 to Joseph B. and C. Geneva Osthimer in South Bend, Indiana. He was a lifelong resident of the South Bend community, graduating from Central High School.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, Tom and Jon Osthimer and his sister, Joy Becker.

Bob is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Barbara, his two sons, Scott (Joddi) Osthimer of Granger and Doug (Susan Devetski) Osthimer of Granger; two granddaughters, Abigail Osthimer of Indianapolis, Indiana and Hanna Osthimer of South Bend, Indiana; and two step-grandchildren, Grace Hamilton of Los Angeles, California and George Hamilton of Granger.

After graduating from Central High, Bob enlisted in the United States Navy to serve his country during the Korean conflict aboard the USS Hornet. It was during this time that he met Barbara at a USO dance in Baltimore, Maryland.

Bob and his brothers worked for many years together as co-owners of Osthimer, Inc. Bob developed so many close friends during his years of serving customers of the family business that he continued to have a busy lunch schedule even years after retirement. Bob was also a member of the Masonic Temple, very active in the Christian Science Church, and an active alumni member of Central High School.

Bob had many interests and leisure activities centered around his family including time at their lake cottage, boating, water skiing, snowmobiling, dancing, spending many hours working in his yard and was affectionately known as the grill master.
