SOUTH BEND - Raymond L. Kowalski, 62, of Bridgeview Drive, died 5:30 p.m. Tuesday Joseph's Medical Center after an illness. Mr. Kowalski retired from the South Bend Fire Department after more than 31 years service and Wygant's Floral born after 24 March years of service. He was born Mar. 7, 1931, in South Bend, and was a lifelong area resident.

On April 25, 1953, in South Bend, he married Barbara Plotnicki. She survives, with two daughters, Deb Krueger of Granger and Mary Claire Kowalski of Colorado Springs, Colo.; two sons, Greg of New Carlisle and Mike of South Bend; three granddaughters; three sisters, Loretta Martellaro of DeKalb, Ill., Pat Hartman of LaPorte, and Geri Kajzer of Fairfield, Ohio; and a brother, Roman of Bremen.

He was a member of Moose and Sacred Heart Basilica.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in the basilica. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. Thursday, in Welsheimer Funeral 17033 Cleveland Road, where a parish rosary will be said. Memorial contributions may be made to the Grotto at the University of Notre Dame.
