Dorothy Lois (Woofter) Barone

January 1, 1930 – August 17, 2025

Dorothy Lois Barone, age 95, of Bloomington, passed away Sunday, August 17, 2025 at her residence. Born January 1, 1930 in South Bend, Indiana, she was the daughter of Marvin Dore’ and Veral Opal (Crone) Woofter. Dorothy was a graduate of South Bend Central High School, class of 1948. She was married on November 27, 1957 in South Bend, Indiana to her late husband, John Barone. She and John were avid gardeners of both flowers and vegetables. She enjoyed reading, including the daily newspaper and had a particular fondness for history and archaeology. She worked in the I.U. Biology Department for 34 years as a lab manager and was instrumental in providing support to the many students she came in contact with through the years.

Dorothy is survived by her children, Douglas (wife, Denise) Barone, of Batavia, Ohio, Timi (husband, Steven Dow) Barone, of Omaha, Nebraska and John A. Barone, of Bloomington; four grandchildren; Meredith Myfanwy Barone, of Queensbury, New York, Nathaniel Thomas Barone, of Batavia, Ohio, Jeremy Owen Dow, of Omaha, Nebraska and Charlee Lorelei Dow, of Omaha, Nebraska.

In addition to her husband, Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers, Merle Woofter and twins, Ronald Woofter and Donald Woofter.
