Edward Harmon Shafer
Oct. 18, 1928 - June 25, 2001
Edward H. "Bud" Shafer, 72, of South Bend, Ind., passed away after a brief illness at 3:08 p.m. Monday, June 25, in Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Shafer was born Oct. 18, 1928, in South Bend, and was a lifelong resident. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leo H. and Charlotte (Andersen) Shafer; and by his grandparents, John and Anna Andersen.
He retired from Circle Lumber and was also employed with the C.E. Lee Company for 35 years.
On Nov. 23, 1950, in St. Joseph Catholic Church, South Bend, he married Margaret A. Fodor, who survives. He is also survived by his children, Charlotte A. (Doug) Defebaugh of Granger, Ind., Billy (Pam) Shafer of Mishawaka, Ind.; and by two grandchildren, Cory E. Defebaugh and Sarah E. Defebaugh.
Mr. Shafer was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, an usher and a money counter. He was also a member of the University Club, Notre Dame, and was an usher for the University of Notre Dame football games. He was a Korean War veteran who was stationed in Italy.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 28, in St. John the Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, where a parish Rosary will be prayed at 4 p.m. Bud was a wonderful grandpa to Cory and Sarah.
We will miss you Grandpa Bud, from all the kids at "Charlotte's Web."
