In Memory
Janice Enita (Salkeld) Infalt
November 7, 1930 ~ April 14, 2025 94 Years Old
On April 14, 2025, we lost a kind, gentle, caring, and beautiful loving woman. Born November 7, 1930, Janice E. (Salkeld) Infalt of South Bend, Indiana passed away while resting peacefully and now her soul is with our Savior Jesus Christ.
A 1948 graduate of Central High School, soon after employed by Studebaker Corporation, she met the love of her life and husband of 56 years, Michael S. Infalt who died in 2009; also proceeded in death, brother Clark Salkeld; survived by six children: Stephen (Judi) Infalt (Valparaiso, IN), Lisa (Richard 2023) Landry (Sarasota, FL), David (Chris) Infalt (Freeport, FL), Mark (Wendy) Infalt (St. Petersburg, FL), Linda (Dr. Wesley) Magnuson (South Bend), Lora (Timothy) Tatum(South Bend); five grandchildren, and 15 great grandchildren. Also surviving are a sister Mary Kay Freel of South Bend and a brother Dr. Clifford Salk of Ft. Wayne, IN.
Janice was an amazing wife and mother who lovingly, skillfully, and carefully raised her children which became her life-long joy. Giving birth to six children in seven years proved to be a challenge, but her faith with unwavering commitment and love for them and her husband provided the strength and ability to excel in every way possible. Prior to retiring and moving to Trinity, Florida in 1992, Janice was a member of the Saint Mathew’s Catholic Church Choir, past President to Ladies of the Elks of the USA #235, dedicated and honored member of The Memorial Hospital Auxiliary in South Bend, and a member of South Bend Country Club. She enjoyed playing bridge and most of all loved to host and entertain with family, friends, and neighbors. She recognized the value of bringing people together for all types of celebrations, special occasions, and holidays creating traditions and everlasting memories.
As fate would have it, in 2009 she purchased one of her former homes in South Bend and was fortunate to live nearby the loving and watchful care of her twin daughters, Lora and Linda. It was a place where she enjoyed many hints of heaven in seeing the presence of God’s shimmering sunshine, and oh how she loved the sunshine. His brilliant Light illuminating the birds, flowers, and trees in her yard; especially the brilliant red cardinals. Trading times of loneliness and quiet days into a routine to seek Him and His perfect peace. Her ways were consistent, and she was slow to judge or ever ridicule another; present and willing to listen with compassion and empathy--she was wise to teach us “everyone has their problems,” which perhaps was a subtle way of telling us we are truly never alone in our life struggles to understand those struggles may not be as hard as we think. Janice gave unconditional love, kindness, and blessings to all who knew her.
June 27, 2025, Mass to honor Janice, 5:00 pm at St. Matthew’s Catholic Church, 1701 Miami Street, South Bend, IN. A celebration of life event (TBD).
