Helen Claytene (Merley) Vick

Claytene Merley Vick of Salem died Sunday. She was born in South Bend, Ind. She came to Salem in 1964. She was a vocal music student at Indiana University for two years, attended the University of Montana and received her degree at Oregon College of Education. She taught vocal groups and private voice at Central High School in Independence, Gervais Union High School and Chemeketa Community College.
She also directed the chorus at Salemtowne and sang in the Willamette Community Chorus. She was involved in local musical theater as a performer, music director and voice coach. She most recently was involved with the Pentacle Theatre production of Pippin. She was director of music at of Salem church.
Survivors include her husband, Madison H.; daughters Pamela C. Vick of New York, N.Y., Helen DuBarry of Los Angeles and Lori Dieterich of Portland; son Stuart M. of Portland; mother Mamie R. Merley of Salem; and brother Richards H. Merley of Helena, Mont.
Visiting will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday in Virgil T. Golden mortuary, Salem. Memorial services will begin at 3 p.m. Friday in the First United Methodist Church sanctuary. Interment will be private.
