SOUTH BEND - Margaret A. Cater, 83, of South Bend, IN, passed away at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, November 12, 2011, in her home following an extended illness.

Margaret was born on August 2, 1928, in Indiana, PA, to Patsy and Mary (Romeo) Catanzarite, and had lived in South Bend since 1935. On August 27, 1949, in St. Joseph Catholic Church, South Bend, IN, as Margaret A. Catanzarite, she married Arnold A. Cater, who survives.

Also surviving are three daughters, Linda Keene of Willis, TX, Susan (Jay) Butz of Syracuse, NY, and Brenda (David) Barany of Granger, IN; two sons, Michael Cater of Lake Zurich, IL, and Anthony (Barbara) Cater of South Bend, IN; 11 grandchildren, Sarah, Tommy, Craig, Nicole, Mathew, Jamie, John, Merrissa, Ben, Alex and Danielle; eight great-grandchildren, Matthew, Chris, Austin, Alexus, Blake, Jasmine, Collin and Gavin; one sister, Teresa Walder of Los Angeles, CA; and two nieces, Tracy (Richard) Burger and Tammy Walder.

Margaret was preceded in death by two grandsons, Donald and Eric Finnigan; and one son-in-law, Jack Keene. A Mass of Christian

Burial will be held at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, November 16, 2011, in Christ the King Catholic Church, officiated by Father Ron Tripi, C.S.C. Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola, IN. Friends may call from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. today in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, where a parish Rosary will be prayed at 3:30 p.m.

Margaret was a member of Christ the King Parish and previously St. John the Baptist Rosary Society. She enjoyed "coffee with the girls," going to card parties and playing Bingo. Margaret loved spending time with her family.

The family wishes to express their appreciation to the many nurses and staff of Hospice who over the years cared for Margaret. If any were left out we apologize. Those serving Margaret were Stefanie, Tina, David (Dr. Dave), Shannon, Amanda and Colette. Chaplains: Steve and Bridget, and Social Worker, Betsy. Also, the private help of our Dear Lucy and Julie, and not to forget our daughter, Brenda, and son, Tony, for their countless hours of loving care. She will be greatly missed.
