Condolences

SOUTH BEND - Gertrude passed peacefully on April 7, 2017 at the ACRES of Indiana. She was the daughter of Frank and Mary (Sobieralski) Nalepinski born on July 14, 1927 in South Bend, Indiana. She graduated from St. Adalbert School and Central High School. She was predeceased by her parents, brothers, Bernard (Josephine) and Fred Nalepinski and nephews, Richard Nalepinski and Randy Rogers. Those remaining to miss her are sisters, Betty (Raymond) Haluda and Loretta Rogers and sister-in-law, Betty (Nalepinski) Johnson; nephews, Ronald (Linda), Dennis (Diane), Thomas and Dale (Nancy) Nalepinski, Mark (Michelle), Paul, John (Laura), Anthony and Philip Haluda; and nieces, Deb (Michael) Ganus, Diane (Robert) James, Carol Lundquist, Kim (Terry) Hardman, Kathy (Dana) Cremer, Candice Rogers and Margaret Rogers. There are many great-nieces and great-nephews.

She began her working career at Studebaker Corporation and then moved to Chicago where she lived and worked until she retired. Gertie moved back to South Bend and remained active with family, friends and her sorority sisters of Beta Sigma Phi. She spent many hours preparing cancelled stamps for the Holy Cross Sisters' Missions at St. Mary's College. Gertie faithfully attended the retreats held at Fatima House and the Medjugorje Queen of Peace Ministries monthly Masses. During her life she took many vacations in the United States as well as Europe. They were a highlight in her life and she always had many pictures to prove her enjoyment.

She was a member of Holy Family Church where services will be held on Tuesday, April 11, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. with visitation one hour prior to the Mass.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff of the ACRES of Indiana, Center for Hospice Care and to Southfield Village, where Gertie previously resided for a few years. Your compassionate care made her last few years comfortable.
