SOUTH BEND - William F. ''Billy'' Ellis Jr., 44, of Los Angeles, formerly of South Bend, died Wednesday morning at Centinela Hospital Medical Center, Inglewood, Calif., after an illness. Mr. Ellis was a computer programmer with Al Hirt Recording Co. and Los Angeles Forum.
He was born Nov. 23, 1950, in South Bend. Surviving are his parents, William and Jerda Ellis of South Bend; three sisters, Judith Williams of Carson, Calif., Marcella Ellis of Long Beach, Calif., and Gale Ellis of Las Vegas; and maternal grandmother, Dena Bell of South Bend.
He was a graduate of the former Central High School, where he played varsity football and basketball. He graduated from Automation Machine Training Center, Computer Divison, Kansas City, Kan., in 1970. He was a former member of Grace AME Zion Church.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Clark's Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home.
