Central 1938 Paul L Borough
Sept. 30, 1921 - Oct. 27, 2016
SOUTH BEND - Dr. Paul L. Borough DDS, passed away peacefully at age 95 on October 27, 2016, at ManorCare Health Services in Boulder, CO. Paul was born on September 30, 1921 at his home in South Bend, IN to Drs. Samuel and Lova Borough. His early life was spent in South Bend with his parents and brothers Lester and William Borough. In the summers, the family lived at Diamond Lake in Cassopolis, MI. It was here that Paul developed his passion for sailing and water. Paul attended Central High School in South Bend and was active in choir, theatre, and was a member of the swim team. He attended college at Indiana University in Bloomington where he was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. While crossing a bridge on the IU campus, he met his future bride, Annese E. Brown, to whom he married nine years later in South Bend at the First United Methodist Church. Paul attended dental school at the Loyola University School of Dentistry in Chicago, Illinois. During WWII, Paul served as Chief Dental Surgeon in the Army Air Corps and was stationed at Adak Army Airfield on Adak Island, Aleutian Islands, Alaska. After WWII, Paul returned to South Bend, IN and opened his own dental practice. He specialized in dentures and cosmetic dentistry, transforming patients' lives with beautiful new smiles. Paul and Annese had one daughter, Leslie Borough Dunlap, and one granddaughter, Laura Borough Dunlap. After retirement, Paul and Annese moved to Fort Myers, FL and lived there for many years. The 50 years of love and devotion Paul had for Annese was and continues to be eternal. He took the kindest care of her for ten years as her health degraded from Alzheimer's disease before her passing. In 2009, Paul moved to Boulder, CO to live with his daughter and granddaughter. Paul's greatest gift to the world was his kind and compassionate nature that he shared with everyone, especially his family. His life will always be cherished and remembered for his unlimited devotion to his wife, daughter, and granddaughter. He never complained about anything, even in the most challenging times. Paul was a true optimist and will be dearly missed. Paul's greatest interests included spending time with his family, sailing, sculling, building boats, designing jewelry, sculpting, traveling, and making wine. He loved the ocean. He loved water. Paul was preceded in death by his loving wife, his parents, and his brothers. He is survived by his daughter, Leslie Borough Dunlap, of Boulder, CO; his granddaughter, Laura Borough Dunlap, of Fort Collins, CO; his nieces, Mary Borough, Alice Borough Ahrens, and Carol Borough Perez, who all reside in FL; and his nephews: Richard Borough and David Borough, both residing in CA. A celebration of Paul's life will be held at a later date in Florida. Visit www.ahlbergfuneralchapel.com to share condolences.
