Richard J. Sergeant

SOUTH BEND - Richard J. Sergeant, 56, of Springville, Calif., formerly of South Bend, died about 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at his home of an apparent heart attack.

Mr. Sergeant retired from TRW, Torrance, Calif. He was born May 31, 1935, in South Bend and lived in California since 1953.

On June 30, 1982, in Los Angeles, he married Heather Shapiro. She survives with four daughters, Jayne Hartley of Spokane, Wash., Julie Cammeron of Lomita, Calif., Joan Whalers of Torrance, Calif., and Jackie Sergeant of Long Beach, Calif; two sons, John and Jeff, both of Long Beach; a stepdaughter, Lori Patton of Lomita; six grandchildren; his father, John of South Bend; and a brother, Thomas of Mishawaka.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in Myers Funeral Home, Porterville Calif. Memorial contributions may be made to Ponderosa Ambulance Service, Springville, Calif. 93265.
