William Henry Odell

William H. “Bill” Odell, age 90, of Sturgis, Michigan, passed away peacefully on the evening of Wednesday, August 13, 2025, at Sparrow House Senior Living in Sturgis.

Born on March 26, 1935, in South Bend, Indiana, he was the son of the late Clarence and Frances (Henkel) Odell. Bill spent his early years in South Bend and was a proud graduate of South Bend Central High School. He continued his education at Ball State University, where he earned his bachelor’s degree and was a founding member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity.

In 1968, Bill and his family made Sturgis their home, having previously lived in Muncie, Indiana. On August 20, 1966, he married the love of his life, Linda Warner, in North Manchester, Indiana. The couple would have celebrated 59 years of marriage this month.

Professionally, Bill served as the Director of Conferences at Ball State University and later became a successful entrepreneur. He owned and operated several Burger Chef restaurants and was active in real estate development.

A proud U.S. Army veteran, Bill was also a dedicated member of his community. He was a member of Radiant Life Church and the Sturgis Rotary Club and served on the board of the First National Bank in Sturgis. In his leisure time, Bill enjoyed gardening and was an avid Duplicate Bridge player.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Linda; two sons, Michael (Elizabeth) Odell of Pasadena, California, and John Odell of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Carolyn Odell.

In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place. A visitation will be held from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 28th at Radiant Life Church, 907 N. Nottawa Street in Sturgis. A memorial service celebrating Bill’s life will immediately follow at 1:00 p.m., with Pastor Brandon Kinsey officiating.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Hackman Family Funeral Homes of Sturgis.
