Duane M. Hays

Duane M. Hays, 64, of Lakeshore Drive, Dowagiac, Mich., formerly of South Bend, Ind., passed away following a tragic accident at about 5 p.m. on Tuesday evening, Nov. 16, in his home.
He was born in Neoga, Ill., on Feb. 25, 1935, to the late Glenn M. Hays and Dorsa M. (Gordon) Hays, who survives, of South Bend. He came to South Bend in 1946, and was a 1953 graduate of the former Central High School.
On Sept. 24, 1983, in South Bend, he married Eilene M. (Farrell) Hays, who survives. He is also survived by his son, Kenneth M. (Deborah) Hays; his grandchildren, Robert Hays and Katherine Hays, all of Granger, Ind.; his sister, Vickie Humphries of Wilsonville, Ala.; a stepdaughter, Kimberly A. (Pat) Kelly of South Bend; a stepson, Timothy J. (Michele) Dake of Racine, Wis.; and by five step-grandchildren, Lara Dake and Kory Verhein, both of Racine, Carolyn Kelly, Mitchell Kelly and Mark Kelly, all of South Bend.
He was also preceded in death this past April by a sister, Shirley Hamman.
Duane was a member of St. Joseph Lodge 45 F & AM, Orak Shrine, Michigan City, Ind., Scottish Rite Valley of South Bend, and the Loyal Order of the Moose.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 5 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 21, in the McGann Funeral Homes, University Area Chapel, 2313 E. Edison Road, South Bend, where there will be a Masonic memorial service at 3:30 p.m.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 22, in the funeral home, with Rev. Donald Neely officiating. Burial will take place in Dexter, Mich., at St. Joseph Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
