Arlene M. Schafer

Arlene M. Schafer, 87, residing in Bremen, passed away on Sunday, May 8, 2022 at Southfield Village. She was born April 4, 1935, in South Bend, IN to the late Stanley W. and Violet M. (Sumpter) Geabler.

On October 7, 1961, in South Bend, IN Arlene was united in marriage to Rolland L. Schafer, who preceded her in death on January 7, 2004

She is survived by her daughter, Ronda L. Schafer of Bremen; son, Ryan L. Schafer of Bremen and two grandchildren: Kyle J. Schafer of Bremen and Sarah M. Schafer of Bremen.

Arlene graduated from South Bend Central High School. She spent most of her life in public service as she liked working with people. She was active in 4-H and loved her time there. She was a member of the Indiana Extension Homemakers Association for over 50 years. She also enjoyed her time working at LS Ayres. She officially retired in 1998. Arlene loved to travel. She visited all 50 states and every continent except Antarctica. It was well known she kept two suitcases packed, one for warm weather and one for cold. She enjoyed spending time in her garden.

A Celebration of Life will be held on July 17, 2022, from 3:00pm – 6:00 pm at the Esther Singer building on the St Joseph County Fair Grounds, 5117 S Ironwood Dr, South Bend, IN 46614. Palmer Funeral Home – Guisinger Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
