LOIS JEAN SKELTON

SOUTH BEND - Lois Jean Skelton 72, of Bluffton, SC, formerly of South Bend, passed into the next life on January 12, 2008, after a long illness. Surviving are her husband, George; daughters and their spouses, Martha and Eric Kavalauskas, Carol and John Lelivelt. Six grandchildren, William, Grace, Daniel, Benjamin, Ethan and Braden survive as well.

She is also survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Rolland and Marilyn Cabana of South Bend IN; her sister-in-law, Roberta Skelton of Park Ridge, IL; and her brother-in-law, Grant Skelton of Rancho Cucamonga, CA. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews and cousins. Lois was born in South Bend, Indiana, to and was preceded in death by Rolland and Bonnie Cabana.

She attended South Bend Central High School and graduated as a registered nurse from Memorial School of Nursing in South Bend. Her professional career was as an operating room nurse. She was active in charity causes including Thalia in South Bend, as well as being co-founder of the Memorial Hospital Gift Shop. Additionally, she served on the Memorial Hospital Auxiliary Board and was a volunteer at the Logan Center. The Skeltons moved to the Low Country in 1986 from South Bend, IN, and currently reside in Belfair. Lois was active in golf and was past president of four ladies golf associations at the Morris Park Country Club in South Bend, Long Cove Golf Club and Bear Creek Golf Club in Hilton Head, SC, and the DeBourdieu Club in Georgetown, SC. She was past proprietor of the Hilton Head Fudge Factory in Hilton Head. Lois also leaves many friends in Bristol, VA, where the Skeltons maintain a second home.

Private family services have already been conducted. A party for the celebration of Lois' life will be held in Bristol, VA, in the near future. In lieu of flowers, please remember Lois with memorials to Hospice Care of the Low Country, P.O. Box 24158, Hilton Head Island, SC 29925; or to the American Cancer Society, P.O.
