A Mass of Christian Burial for Robert John Blasczyk, 89, of Newark, will be held at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, 11 A.M., Monday, October 28, 2024, with Father Mike Gentry as celebrant. Calling will be held at the church for one-hour prior to the Mass. Entombment with military honors will be held in Newark Memorial Gardens immediately following the Mass.
Bob, a parishioner of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, died at Riverside Hospital on Sunday, October 20, 2024. He was born in South Bend, Indiana on August 12, 1935, to the late John and Alice (Kazmierczak) Blasczyk.
Bob was a United States Airforce Veteran (1954-1958) serving 36 months in Germany during the Korean Conflict.
He retired as a facilities manager from Rockwell International after 35 years of service. He began his career in Mishawaka, Indiana, then transferred to the Newton Falls Plant eventually joining the Heath plant until his retirement. He was a member of the Rockwell Salary Club and the American Legion Post 804.
Bob dedicated many years as a baseball coach, beginning in Warren, Ohio, then locally at Babe Ruth Baseball and North Newark, which he was also instrumental in its development.
A dedicated husband, father and grandfather, Bob could fix anything and shared these skills willingly. He enjoyed his Michigan summer home, fishing, and mushroom hunting. Above all, Bob loved his family more than anything.
He will be greatly missed by his wife of 66 years, Margaret (Grontkowski) Blasczyk; children, Mark (Michele (Blasczyk), Marcy (James) DelVecchio, Laurie Marple, Lynne Moses, and Timothy (Nicole) Blasczyk; 10 grandchildren, Rob (Amber), Kristi, Nathan, Sarah, Ryan, Wyatt, and Ian Blasczyk, Michael Marple, Hannah Moses, and Josh Vickers; 6 great-grandchildren, Sadie, Marcus, Madelyn, and Grayson Blasczyk, Charlotte and Cal Dorsch; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his stepfathers, Tony Sisti and Ed Chrobot; sister, Sharon Balint.
The family requests memorials in Bob's name be made to the Food Pantry or Kidney Foundation.
