Thomas Dobski

Thomas T. Dobski, passed away in Kindred Transitional Care & Rehabilitation on Sunday, August 26, 2012. Tom is survived by his wife, Carolyn, his daughters, Cheryl (Dennis) Henry and Christi K. Mullen. His son, Stephen, preceded him in death. He also is survived by his brothers, Ed (Sharon) Dobski and Bernie Dobski, and by his sister, Mikki (Peter) Shidler. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and loved them dearly. He has six grandchildren, Westin (Amy) Williamson, Jessica (Charles) Smith, Rock Henry, Nick Mullen, Kayla Mullen, and Allie Dobski. He has two great grandchildren Austin Wells and Kaycie Smith. Tom was a lifelong resident of South Bend. He graduated from Central High School in 1959. He worked at Pearl's Restaurant right out of high school. He also worked for the former Sunnyside Beverage, former General Liquors, former Olinger Distribtutors, the Coca-Cola Company, and the Century Center where he retired in 2010. He was a member of the Teamsters Local Union. He was a parishioner at Christ the King Catholic Church and was a member of their Holy Name Society and ushers club, where he became the "head" usher for their 8:45 a.m., Mass. He also enjoyed working at Christ the King Church's former BINGO night. He had also been a scout troop leader for the Boy Scouts. Tom's passion was going to local auctions, estate, and garage sales. He loved the thrill of the hunt and enjoyed finding those hidden treasures. He enjoyed his weekly fishing trips with his now deceased father-in-law, Emil Seach. The family would like to thank Dr. Walter Filipek, Dr. John Jacobs and staff, and Dr. John Kobayashi and staff for all of the wonderful care given to him. Special thanks to the outstanding staff at Kindred Transitional Care & Rehabilitation who were truly exceptional with the care given to him. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, August 30, 2012 in Christ the King Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 until 8 p.m. Wednesday in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N.
