1937 Central - Marie Elizabeth Cook

July 6, 1919 - April 1, 2016

SOUTH BEND - Marie Elizabeth Cook, 96, passed away peacefully April 1, 2016.

Marie was born July 6, 1919, in South Bend, IN, to the late Bernard J. and Hazel M. (Robinson) Doetsch.

She graduated from South Bend Central in 1937. During her high school years, Marie was a proud member of 999 Clothier Girls Softball team, playing 3rd base, “the hot spot.”

On April 18, 1942, she married the love of her life, Darwin H. Cook. He preceded her in death in 1987. She was also preceded in death by all her siblings, Helen Ziel, Richard, Robert, Bernard, John and Donald Doetsch, and Carolyn Kaczmarek.

Left to cherish her memory are her two daughters, Susan (Doyle) Hayes of Middlebury, IN, and Jeanne (Bruce) Haupert of South Bend, IN; and 2 sons, Michael (Jacquelyn) Cook and Christopher Cook, both of South Bend, IN; as well as 7 grandchildren: Christine (John) Raab, Kelly (Robert) Beduhn, Michael (Linda) Cook, Zachary (Nicole) Haupert, Daniel (Kaitlyn) Haupert, Caitlin Cook and Grace Cook; 6 great-grandchildren: John, Kathleen, Matthew, Emily, Michael and Amanda; and 2 great-great-grandchildren, Theodore Michael Fay and Lennon Ponder.

Marie was a loving and caring mother and grandmother. She was a gifted needle worker; many of her friends & family cherish the pieces she embroidered for them. She loved playing cards, but most of all she loved spending time with her family.

Friends may visit from 1-3 PM, with the funeral following at 3PM, on Tuesday, April 5th, at the McGann Hay, University Chapel, 2313 E. Edison Rd., South Bend, with Fr Herb Yost, C.S.C., officiating.
