SOUTH BEND - Karen K. Brooks, 71, of South Bend, departed this life on Tuesday, January 7, 2014, at Signature Health Care, South Bend. Karen was born March 5, 1942, in Rochester, IN, to Robert and Pauline (Bradway) Yeakley. Karen was preceded in death by her father, Robert Yeakley, and her brother, Robin R. Yeakley.
Karen is survived by her mother, Pauline Yeakley of South Bend; daughters, Yalanda (Michael) White of Chicago, IL, and Dawn R. (Bernard Sr.) Wicker of South Bend; son, Arvester L. Brooks III of Sicily, Italy; seven grandchildren, Brian, Da'Nika, Takara, Dominique, Anaisa, BreAna and Bernard Jr.; one great-grandson, Bryson; two brothers, Joe J. (Linda) Yeakley of Draper, Virginia, and Gary G. (YiPing) Yeakley of Ontario, CA.
Karen had worked as an Investment Representative at 1st Source Bank of South Bend. For many years, Karen volunteered at the gift shop at the Michiana Osteopathic Hospital. Karen was elected Women of the Year for the American Business Women's Association (Potawatomi Chapter) in March of 1997.
