GRANGER - Fannie E. “Amy” Tremel, 75, of Granger, passed away on Tuesday, July 10, 2018 at Memorial Hospital, South Bend. She was born on September 28, 1942, in South Bend, to the late Louis H. and Ruth Mursten and was a lifelong area resident. On May 14, 1977, as Fannie Mursten, she married James R. Tremel, who preceded her in death on August 14, 2008. She is survived by her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Michael (Mary Tremel) Ryan of South Bend, Joseph (Mary Ann) Tremel of Casper, WY, and Judith M. Tremel of Greensboro, GA; nieces and nephews: Eileen (Dane) Greives, Maureen (John) Lewis, and Michael (Trish) Ryan; Kathleen (Joshua) Tremel-Cole, Suzanne (Robert) Belusic, Carl Tremel, and Jennifer Tremel; John Tremel, Jim (Mary) Tremel, Jacob (Kate) Tremel, Justin Tremel, Jeffrey Tremel, and Jeremy (Fleur) Tremel; and by 15 great-niece and nephews, Sam, Connor, and Jack Greives; Tucker, Cooper, Maccoy, and Quinn Lewis; Lucas and Ruby Cole, Charlie Belusic, Jack and Josephine Tremel, Callan and Adelade Tremel, and Savina Tremel. Amy retired in 2011 from the University of Notre Dame, where she worked for 27 years as a receptionist. After retirement from Notre Dame, she worked for the Millers Veteran Center. She was a 1960 graduate of South Bend Central High School and a parishioner of Sacred Heart Parish, Notre Dame. She and her husband were supporters of the Center for the Homeless. Visitation for Amy will be from 3 to 7p.m. Monday, July 16, 2018, at the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Dr., South Bend, where a Rosary will be prayed at 4 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 17, 2018 at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 1050 Wilbur St., South Bend. Burial will follow in Saint Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger. Memorial contributions may be made to the Center for the Homeless, 813 S. Michigan St., South Bend, IN 46601.
