Dorothy Sue (Matthews) Alig

Apr 26, 1942 - Feb 27, 2017 

Alig, Dorothy Sue Matthews 74, originally of South Bend IN, passed away of a sudden stroke on February 27, 2017 at home in Mesa.

She leaves behind her husband, John, her Daughter, Jennifer (Tom) and her son, Matthew, Step-son John David Alig and many beloved family and friends.

Sue always insisted that things be done the right way- which she always seemed to convince us, was her way, and so attempting to manage our lives is never going to be the same. Sue was the glue; she kept up on all the important details of family and friends, near and far, and made sure that everyone kept in touch. Sue would not have said she was particularly accomplished, but besides rigorously taking care of her husband and children. 

Sue was extremely active in the Mesa Public Schools Parent Advisory Council for Special Education when her son Matt was a student and helped to implement high standards of education for Mesa kids with special needs. When it was time to move on to vocational avenues, Sue followed Matt to MARC Community Resources as a board member where she was much valued and generally considered the first person to get down to business with the funniest quips. Her advocacy in this area has insured that countless disabled children and adults get the services that they need to lead dignified and productive lives. Sue would have bent over backwards to help anyone in need, and with her loss we know you all want to reciprocate, but please, in lieu of flowers (Sue was also the green thumb of the family, the rest of us are not) please consider a donation to MARC center in her name at MARCCR.com
