SOUTH BEND — Carolyn Antoinette Mays. 50, of 2511 W. Ewing Ave.. a former Portage Township Advisory Board member and longtime community leader, died at 8:10 a.m. Wednesday in St. Joseph's Medical Center of natural causes. Mrs. Mays who was employed by Hansel Neighborhood Service Center Inc., was a charter member and past president of the Combined Civic and Democratic Club of St. Joseph County. She also served as chairman of "Get Out to Vote" Committee of St. Joseph County. was a member of the Advisory Board of Energizers of Precinct Committeemen, served as president of the National People's Democratic Uhuru Movement South Bend Chapter and was a former recreation director of Logan Center.
Mrs. Mays was born July 1. 1942. in South Bend and was a lifelong area resident. She is survived by a daughter. Donyelle Mays of South Bend: a son, Anthony Walker of South Rend: two grandchildren: her parents, Helen Carr of South Bend and Thomas Banks of Gary; a step-sister, Cynthia Warren of Gary: and a stepbrother, James Metcalfe of Gary.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Alford's Mortuary. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery. Friends may call one hour before services on Saturday in the funeral home
