Sandra K. “Sandy” Sorenson Honchell March 16, 1940 - Nov. 5, 2018 SOUTH BEND, IN - Sandra K. “Sandy” Honchell, 78, of South Bend, IN, passed away at 8:25 p.m. Monday, November 5, 2018 at Healthwin Specialized Care in South Bend, IN, where she left this world surrounded by and holding hands with her family. She was born on a balmy 42 degree Saturday, March 16, 1940. Her parents were the late Irvin and Catherine (Wilkinson) Sorenson. She was a lifelong area resident. Sandy graduated in 1958 from Central High School in South Bend. She retired in 2014 from the former Rubin Cleaners in South Bend, IN, where she worked as a Clerk for 20 years. On July 26, 1958, as Sandy Sorenson, she married Theodore “Ted” C. Honchell at Ardmore Brethren Church in South Bend, IN. Ted passed away on February 2, 2015. Sandy is survived by two daughters, Deb (Tom) Danford of Angola, IN and Diane (Dave) Kennedy of South Bend, IN; one son, Richard C. (Kim) Honchell of South Bend, IN; nine grandchildren, Steve (Jennifer) Estes, Brandi (Kyle) Heeter, Jessica (Jon) Pope, Taylor (T.J.) Binder, Rachael (Kelly) Parmelee, Aaron (Samantha) Honchell, Grant Niezgodski, Kahley Micinski, and Dirk (Lexy) Hayford; and 12 great-grandchildren, Lilianne, Kaylyne, Xavier, Simon, Zander, Jasmine, Joseph, Brooke, Elijah, Benjamin, Jackson, and Zeke, and two more expected in 2019. What an amazing, loving family Sandy and Ted created together! Sandy's love and joy was to spend time with her family, many friends, and doting on her grandchildren and her pets. She and her late husband Ted enjoyed life together visiting Hawaii, DC, and Florida to name a few. After battling a long illness, Sandy passed, surrounded by loving family members. Visitation will be from 4-6 p.m. Thursday, November 8, 2018 at Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, IN. A Celebration of Life Service will follow at 6:00 p.m. Thursday in Kaniewski Funeral Home.
