Troy Lee Wilson

Troy Lee Wilson Sr.

Aug. 17, 1946 - Jul. 15, 2005

Troy Lee Wilson Sr., 58, beloved husband, son, father, grandfather and brother of North Olive Street, South Bend, Ind., departed this life on Friday, July 15, 2005.

He was born August 17, 1946, to the union of Louis and Mary Wilson. Employed for 35 years at Bendix/Honeywell, Troy retired in July 2004.

Troy confessed his life at an early age at Berean Seventh-day Adventist Church, South Bend, Ind., where he attended the Berean Seventh-day Adventist School from first to eighth grade, and graduated from South Bend Central High School in 1964. He then attended Central State College in Wilberforce, Ohio. Troy was drafted into the United States Army in 1966. A Vietnam War veteran, he was honorably discharged in 1969. As a member of Amvets Post 66, he last served as a service officer.

He leaves to cherish his memory a loving wife, Rose Wilson; three children, Toron (Wendy) Wilson of Mishawaka, IN, Troy (Amber) Wilson Jr. of Indianapolis, IN, and Tony Wilson and his fiancée, Monica Williams of Grand Rapids, Mich.; three daughters, Yolanda Wilson and her fiancé, Joseph Tillman, YoVanda (Terrance) Jackson and Darena (Kenneth) Taylor, all of South Bend, IN; his mother, Mary Turner of Arden, North Carolina; three sisters, Trina (Charles) Clemons, Bobbie Fisher of South Bend and Alveria Wilson of Indianapolis, IN; a brother, Walter Lewis France of Arden, North Carolina; two brothers-in-law, Michael Everidge of San Diego, Calif., and Henry Everidge of Bonham, TX; two sisters-in-law, Mary Harris of South Bend, IN, and Emma Robinson of Bonham, Texas; two aunts, Annie Huddleston and Clara Elliott, both of Indianapolis, IN; 17 grandchildren and one great-grandchild; a special daughter, Yvonne Taylor of South Bend; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and associates.

Preceding him in death were his father, Louis Wilson (1970); one son, Markus Deon Wilson (2002); a granddaughter, SoJourner Truth Taylor; stepfather, Timothy Turner; uncle, James Dillard (2002); and an aunt, Mable Dillard (2002).

Troy had a love of working outside in the yard planting flowers of all kinds and attending to his vegetable garden. A creator of recipes, he invented, he enjoyed cooking. Being the kind-hearted person he was, he would often share them with others. A fisherman of many years, he would often say "it's relaxing and good for the mind."

Troy was a free giver to charities. He believed if he had it, then someone else deserved it. This wonderful, loving and kind-hearted man, known as Troy, will be greatly missed. As for me, his wife, he will always be the love of my life.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 21, at noon in Laymen Chapel A.M.E. Church, with visitation occurring one hour prior to services in the church.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Alford's Mortuary.
