SOUTH BEND - Services for Wanda Welch, 49, of Chicago, formerly of South Bend, who died Monday in Christ Hospital, Oaklawn, Ill., after an automobile accident on the Chicago Skyway, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Cage Memorial Chapel, Chicago. Burial will be at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday in Wood National Cemetery, Milwaukee. Friends may call one hour before services Saturday in the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Wanda Welch Scholarship Fund, in care of April Welch, 1612 Farwell St., Unit C, Chicago, IL 60626.

Mrs. Welch was a self event planner in Chicago. She was born July 23, 1946, in South Bend.

She is survived by a daughter, April Welch of Chicago; a son, Craig of Chicago; and three brothers, Craig of Moreno Valley, Calif., David of Chicago and Horatio of Kalamazoo.

She was a graduate of Central High School and was a Marine Corps veteran of the Vietnam War and a member of Marine Corps Reserves.

Wanda Welch, born July 23, 1946, died February 12, 1996.

Wanda was a bright young motivator who dedicated her life to helping others. She was famous for providing unconditional assistance and support to anyone in need. She was a fearless risk taker who always challenged injustice and implemented plans to solve problems.
Wanda took great pride in being a Vietnam Era Marine. The Marine Corp. was family for her and her two children. She wanted her epitaph to read "Here lies Wanda Welch Good Mother, Good Marine".

She was actively involved in efforts to defend civil rights, her country and anyone in need. She traveled extensively and lived in many places, always speaking up for the rights of the little guy.

Many individuals and community organizations have benefited from both her inspirational spirit and her organizational skills.

Wanda, daughter of Nicie Ann Welch and Horatio Welch, Sr. is survived by her children: April Welch and Craig Welch; her godchildren, Aaron Gill, Adam Gill, Alex Gill and Autumn Gill; her brothers, Craig Welch, Sr., David Welch and Horatio Welch. Sisters-in-law: Sherl Lindeman, Sharon Welch and Susan Welch. Aunts: Francis Carter, Leola Carter, Helen Carter, Kathleen Clark. Alonia Martin, Florence Ross, Mary Lou Williams. Uncles: Booker Carter and Tom Carter. Favorite cousins: Ronnie Carter, Dennis Carter, Debi Harrison, Wiley Hoovor Sr., Joan Irving and Joan Wilson. Drafted family members: Brother: Bob Schmit Daughters: Collette Ara, Holly Campbell Smith and Jocelyn Dondeville and the rest, you know who you are. Wanda was also survived by a host of treasured com-padres, relatives and good friends too numerous to list.

Military Ceremony with Honor Guard will be held Saturday, February 17, at Cage Memorial Chapel, 7651 S. Jeffery Blvd. Chicago, IL 60649. 10 a.m. Visitation, 11 a.m. Ceremony. Burial will be held Tuesday, February 20 at 12:30 p.m. at Wood National Cemetery, 5000 West National Avenue Bldg. 122 Milwaukee, Wl 53195.
