Curtis Owens

Curtis Owens, 75, of 52485 Cushing Road, South Bend, IN, departed this life on Monday, December 28, 2020 at Rural Healthcare Center in Indianapolis, IN. He was born on January 15, 1945 to the late Edna Mae Cobb and George Lee in South Bend, IN.

Curtis graduated from South Bend Central High School in 1964. He worked at Three Bears Daycare with his wife until his health failed him. He was known to the children and parents as “Papa”.

Curtis was a faithful member and servant of Greater St. John Missionary Baptist Church, where he served on the Deacons Board for many years. He loved studying and reading the Bible.

His hobbies included working out at the gym, bowling and watching sports. His favorite teams were the Chicago Bears and Notre Dame. Curtis would watch football games in the rain or snow.

He leaves to cherish his memories his wife, Estella Hill Owens; two sons, Scott A. Owens of Indianapolis, IN and Tracey L. Hill of South Bend, IN; nine grandchildren: Scott A. Owens, Jr., Ahmiah Owens, Scotlynn Jones, Brooklyn Owens, Diamond Hill, Brittney (Anthony) Williams, Tracey Hill, Ambrosia Hill, Tracey Hill II; thirteen great-grandchildren with a host of nieces and nephews and cousins. He is also survived by three sisters: Mary (Larry) Birdsong of LaPorte, IN, Virgie Copeland of Jackson, MS and Linda DeBerry of South Bend, IN; two brothers, Tyrone (Ileen) Cobb and Chris Cobb, both of Tampa, FL; as well as a special uncle, Dell Owens, Jr.

Curtis was preceded in death by his parents, Edna Mae Cobb and George Lee; one granddaughter, Porshae J. Owens and a brother, Dennis Lee.

Services for Mr. Curtis Owens will be held on Saturday, January 9, 2021 at 10:30 AM at Palmer Funeral Homes - West Chapel, 2702 Lincoln Way West, South Bend, IN 46628.
