Kathryn Marie Gustafson

SOUTH BEND - Kathryn Marie "KG" Gustafson, 71, passed away unexpectedly of a heart attack after a two-month illness early Friday morning at Memorial Hospital.
She was born in South Bend on May 20, 1945, to the late Frederick Willard and Bernice Marie (Woltman) Gusafson, and was a lifetime resident. Kathy was the longtime owner of Midwest Athletic Equipment and Apparel on Hill St. and South Bend Ave.
Left behind to cherish her memory is her life partner, LuAnn Thomas of South Bend; two daughters, Veronica Lee Thomas of Indianapolis and Chelsea Virginia Thomas of Edwardsburg, MI; and two granddaughters, Kahli Rene Thomas and Paislee Monroe Burmeister, both of Indianapolis.
KG loved camping and working in her store dealing with all the kids and parents of the soccer and many other teams she made uniforms and letter jackets for; she also played darts for many year, as well as gardening and canning her tomatoes. She also loved boating, fishing and spending time with family and friends at her lake cottage on Hoffman Lake in Warsaw.
Friends may call at McGann Hay Funerals | Cremations | Gatherings, Granger Chapel, 13260 SR 23, enter off Cherry Rd., on Wednesday from 4-6 pm when her funeral will take place with Bishop Mickey Standford of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints officiating. Cremation will follow at McGann Hay's American Cremation Society.
