In Memory
Journalist, politician, minister, and author, OLLISTEEN “STEEN” MILES was born in South Bend, Indiana to Rev. Austin Andrew Davis and Rose Wheeler Davis on August 20, 1946. She was the eldest of nine children.
She went to her eternal rest on March 29th, 2017. While both parents went to their heavenly homes at early ages, 47 and 51 respectively, they taught Steen early lessons of faith, family and community, values that played pivotal roles throughout her life.
Steen accepted Christ as her personal savior at the age of seven when her father preached his first sermon. She accepted her own call to the ministry in 1995 and was licensed in December 2002 under the late Rev. Dr. George O. McCalep, then Pastor of Greenforest Community Baptist Church of Decatur, Georgia. Steen was an active member for more than 25 years.
One brother, Austin Andrew Davis Jr.; and one sister, Dr. Mary Katherine (Lee) Sanders, preceded her in death.
She leaves to cherish her memory her two adoring daughters: Kellie “Elderjoy” (Michael) Walker and Heather “Babyjoy” (Lee) Bailey; and four grandchildren, William Lee Middleton, Kellea JoSteen Lovejoy, Langston Alexander Bailey and Lauren Avri-Marie Bailey. Other loving siblings who survive are Richard Albin Davis, Mae Rose Hamilton, Bruford Louis (Rae-Sharon) Davis, Philip Davis, Darlies Jeron (Anita) Davis and Bradford Anthony (Rena) Davis; the mothers of her nieces and nephews, Sharon Walker, Clara Davis, Claudia Davis, Kim Davis, Sandra Wiley Davis and Kenya Martin, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Olisteen Davis Miles passed away in Atlanta, GA on March 30, 2017.

Note from Jon F Moran
Her full name was Ollisteen Davis (Miles). I found several obituaries for
her, one in the South Bend Tribune and then several
obituaries/tributes/memorial pages in Atlanta area publications on the web
under the name she went by while a newswoman in Atlanta, "Steen Miles". I
did not know her well in high school. She went to Franklin Grade School
which was near where I lived, but I went to St. Joseph's. She then went to
Riley Junior High School and then to Central for high school. I wouldn't
have known all that except that she was selling a self published biography
at the time of our 45th class reunion in 2009. I must confess I haven't read
all of it, but it is an interesting little book. It is called "Teenie:
Newslady in Training" and tells the story of her growing up in South Bend in
the 50s and 60s. It has some surprising insights into how South Bend was
much more integrated than other Indiana cities during that time. She started
working in TV in South Bend I think and then moved on to the Atlanta area
and eventually was a state legislator in Georgia and ran for other political
offices. She was diagnosed with relatively advanced lung cancer in 2016
according to at least one website for a fundraiser that shows up on a Google
search of "Steen Miles".

Ollisteen was a good friend. She credited me with getting her her first job at WMAQ News in Chicago. She always reminded me of that which felt good. She was a real professional newscaster and highly repected in Atlanta. Gary Weinstein, bear mascot '60 to '63.
