Obituary for Patricia (Patt) Evans Stowers
Patricia (Patt) Evans Stowers, age 85, died at the home of her daughter, Laura Coons, in Bloomington on August 21, 2018.
Patt was born in Indianapolis on January 14, 1933 to Lucille Evans and Robert Stowers of South Bend. She married her soulmate Frederick W. Coons M.D. on September 29, 1956. Fred was the director of the Psychology Division at the I.U. Student Health Center and also had a private counseling practice alongside Patt. The couple co-counseled until his death July 14, 1980, and Patt continued the practice until her retirement around 2005.
Patricia graduated from South Bend Central High School, DePauw University in Greencastle with a BA degree, and from Indiana University Bloomington with a degree in counseling and Ed Psych. In addition to her counseling work, Patt taught in the School of Education with courses on Human Sexuality and Marriage/Family Counseling along with Alan P. Bell, Ph.D. which she continued after his passing.
Patt was also a volunteer for the Girl Scouts of America, doing training, serving as Neighborhood Chairman, and was the First Vice President of the Girl Scout Council in Bloomington.
After retirement, Patt continued her civics work and volunteered at the Bloomington Hospital, Volunteers in Medicine, and Hospice.
Many know Patt for her quirkiness, sense of humor and heartfelt honesty. Everyone has a “Patt Story” to tell. And we will remember her fondly. We would love for you to share your favorite stories and/or photos, which can be sent to celebrating.patt@gmail.com
She is survived by her children, Laura E. Coons and Karl F. Coons, her grandchildren Meghann E. (Aaron P.) Clark and Ryan Coons, and great-grandsons Emerson P. Clark and Spencer B. Clark. As well as her sister Mary Kerr and many nieces and great nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held in the near future and details will be made public.

Betty Jane Rhoads (1964)
Patricia Ann Culp (Evans) was a graduate of the 1964 class and would have been born around 1946. She passed away in Texas several years back and was married to Jesse Evans, previously living in California. This woman was born in 1933 which would make her a graduate of the 1951 class and is probably connected with the last name of Stowers, NOT Patricia Ann Culp Evans..
