MISHAWAKA, IN - John Joseph Bergan of Mishawaka, formerly of Jimtown, passed away at his home on Friday, December, 28, 2018 at the age of 73. John was born in South Bend, IN on August 2, 1945 to the late Paul E. and Marie A. Bergan. On December 30, 1967 at St. Bavo Catholic Church in Mishawaka, he married Gail F. Adams, who survives.

Along with his wife Gail, he is survived by his three children, John (Liz) Bergan of Danville, CA, Daniel Bergan of Granger, IN, and Kevin (Kari) Bergen of Osceola, IN; and three siblings, Paul C. (Linda) Bergan of Eau Claire, MI, Timothy Bergan of Stevensville, MI, and Kathleen Bergan of South Bend, IN; as well as grandchildren, Stephanie Bergan of Goshen, Courtney Bergan of Goshen, Madison Bergan of Osceola, Mackenzie Bergan of Osceola, Ava Bergan of Danville, CA, and Henry Bergan of Danville, CA, and numerous nieces and nephews.

John served in the United States Army; upon his discharge he was employed by Wheelabrator-Frye and later at St. Francis Convent in Mishawaka until his retirement.

John leaves his entire family a great legacy, an example of caring for others, and selflessness to those in need of his great gift of compassion and generosity. He was a Eucuristic Minister to the ill and homebound, a member of the St. Vincent dePaul Society and Meals on Wheels, along with other charitable organizations too numerous to mention. He will be missed by all those whose lives he touched by his kind and gentle spirit.

John's family wishes to thank Hospice for their attentive and diligent care during John's illness.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11:00am on Thursday, January 3, 2019 at St. Bavo Catholic Church, 502 West 7th Street, Mishawaka, IN 46544. Friends may visit one hour before Mass with John's family. Inurnment will follow at Cedar Grove Cemetery, Notre Dame with Military Honors. Palmer Funeral Home-River Park is assisting the Bergan family. Memorial donations in memory of John may be made to St. Vincent dePaul Society, 520 Crescent Ave., South Bend, IN 46617. I knew John fairly well. A good guy. Thank you for your service in the Air Force. Lord bless you & yous. Joe.
