Mary M. (Swanson) Burke

Mary M. Burke, 60, of South Bend, passed away following a brief illness at 3:40 a.m. Tuesday, December 6, 2005, in Memorial Hospital. She was born August 20, 1945, in South Bend, as the daughter of Bror F. and Martha (Walker) Swanson, and had remained a lifelong resident of this community.

On November 12, 1966, in Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, South Bend, as Mary M. Swanson, she married Ronald D. Burke. Her loving husband, Ron of 39 years, survives her along with her daughter, Amy M. Burke of Canton, Ml; her son and daughter-in-law, Thomas and Margie Burke of South Bend; and her grandson, Tommy Burke, whom she just adored. She is also survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and Ron Wenzel of Mooresville, North Carolina; a niece, Robin (Mike) Blaney of Mooresville, North Carolina, and Ron (Betsy) Wenzel Jr. of Huntersville, North Carolina.

Her parents, Bror F. Swanson on August 18, 1983, and her mother, Martha M. Swanson on May 28, 2005, preceded Mary in death.

Mary was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, South Bend. She graduated from South Bend Central High School, was a big Notre Dame women's basketball fan, and enjoying taking pictures.

She was employed for 16 years with Walgreen's where she was head photo specialist.

Services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Friday, Dec. 9, in Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 1021 Manchester Drive, South Bend. Rev. Kenneth Peterson will officiate. Cremation will follow. The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. today in Palmer Funeral Home-River Park, 2528 Mishawaka Ave., South Bend, and one hour prior to services Friday in the church.
