Carolyn Crook, 60, of Elkhart, Ind., died at 8:10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 23 in her home after an illness.

She was born on Oct. 12, 1944, in South Bend, Ind., to the late Louis J. and Virginia (Matay) Papay. She was a graduate of South Bend Central High School. She enjoyed the beach and looked forward every year to traveling to Panama City, Fla., to her "regular" vacation spot along the beach. She was also an avid Notre Dame fan and enjoyed such things as reading, working crossword puzzles and cooking Hungarian food for her family.

On June 11, 1966, in Lawton, Michigan she married Ronald L. Crook. He survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Scott (Kimberly) Palmer of Michigan City, Ind., and Christine Crook of Elkhart; two sisters, Jan Papay of Waterford, Mich., and Mrs. Kirk (Jacquelyn) Blackwood of Kalamazoo, Mich.; and a grandson.

Private services are to be held. The Reverend Bill Sullivan of the St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, Elkhart, will officiate. Cremation will follow, with burial taking place at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to Cancer Services of Elkhart County. Billings Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
