Howard S. McFarland, 81, of North Liberty, Indiana passed away on Monday, November 24, 2025, in his home. Howard was born on July 23, 1944 in Mishawaka, Indiana to Howard and Claire (Burkus) McFarland. He was the owner of HSM Photography. Howard served in the United States Navy for two years. On October 12, 1985, in South Bend, he married Carol Muessel, who preceded him in death on November 20, 2009. Howard is survived by his daughter, Colleen (Jeff) Laderer of South Bend, Indiana; his son, Shannon (Alana) McFarland of Plymouth, Indiana; five grandchildren, Meredith (Justin) Drinkhall, Haley (Blake) Smith, Caroline (Ashton) Ruszkowski, Amanda (Owen) Roop and Susie McFarland; two great-grandchildren, Layla Smith and Everett Roop; his previous wife, Susanne Lamb; his sister-in-law, Mickey (Mike) Hay and his sister-in-law, Mary (Ford) Muessel; and his brother-in-law, Chuck Muessel. Howard was preceded in death by his son, Harrison McFarland. Memorial Services will be held at a later date. Kaniewski Funeral, South Bend, Indiana is in charge of arrangements.

Dear Family,
Very sorry to read about Howard, a classmater of mine at Central HS.
I wonder if Carol Muessel was a distant relative to George Muessel and family, who established a brewery in South Bend and donated Muessel Park and the land to build Muessel School in the 1870's?
