Ronald Eugene “Mother” “Woody” Malohn Sr., 59, of Riverside Drive, South Bend, Ind., passed away after an illness on Friday, June 6, in Hospice House. He was born Sept.21, 1943, in South Bend, to Opal and Harry Malohn, who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by a son, Ronald E. Malohn Jr. on Jan.13, 2003.

On June 20, 1987, in South Bend, he married the former Patti Forray, who survives.He is also survived by a daughter, Shelly (Keith) Green of South Bend; two sisters, Helen Mickey of West End, N.C., and Bea Ruggieri of South Bend; two brothers, Robert Malohn of Smyrna, Ga., and Donald (Myla) Malohn of Scottsdale, Ariz.; an aunt, Hazel Malohn of Long Beach, Calif.; four sisters-in-law, Sue (Ron) Brittain, Jackie Wheeler, both of South Bend, Judy (Ken) Chastain of Berrien Springs, Mich., and Debbie (Keith) Nelson of Lafayette, Ind.; mother-in-law, Jean Wheeler of South Bend; his father-in-law, Alex Forray Jr.; ex- wife, Sandra Malohn of South Pasadena, Fla.;many special nieces, nephews and cousins; best friends, Tom Held and Larry Omundsen;and by numerous other family and friends.

Ron graduated in 1963 from Central High School in South Bend. He then joined the U.S. Navy and served for two years. He worked for Pinkerton Security at AM General Corporation in Mishawaka, Ind., at the time of his death. He had previously worked for Contour Tool and Dye for four years as a tool and dye maker, and at Mastic (Stolle) for 25 years as a machinist. Ron was a lifetime member of First Christian Church in South Bend.He was a member of Odd Fellows Lodge #278 and Moose Lodge #58.He played and coached 16”softball and coached 12”softball in both South Bend and Mishawaka. Ron has bowled for the past 33 years in both South Bend and Mishawaka.His joys in life were family gatherings, spending time with friends, softball, bowling and golf. Ron was such a loving and caring husband and father. He will be truly missed, and is loved deeply by everyone whose lives he touched! 

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m.Saturday, June 14, in the Welsheimer Funeral Home North, 17033 Cleveland Road, with Rev. Owen Cayton of First Christian Church officiating.Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola, Ind.Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m.Friday, June 13, in the funeral home
