Doyle Willson Wright - Class Of 1962 VIEW PROFILE

Doyle Willson Wright

Doyle Willson Wright II

Doyle Willson Wright II, 80, passed away Sunday, June 23, 2024 in his South Bend, IN residence.

He was born on June 13, 1944 in Charleston, WV to Doyle Wright Sr. and Betty June (Grey) Wright. Doyle’s father was deployed for World War II at the time of Doyle’s birth. His father was killed in action and never had the chance to meet his son. Doyle moved to South Bend, IN at 10 years old. He graduated from Central High School in 1962. He attended West Virginia Tech to study mechanical engineering. In his younger years Doyle was an accomplished swimmer and diver. He was also an Eagle scout and continued on to become a Boy Scout leader for his children.

Doyle was employed as an experimental chemist/physicist by General Motors. He later worked as a clown for several Circus's including, most notably, Ringling Brothers and Circus Fantasy. His favorite balloon animals to create were Snoopy on a motorcycle and a teddy bear. Mr. Wright also inspired many young atheletes on both the baseball and softball fields throughout his life as coach and umpire, including two of his children. He always had the strongest opinions, the loudest voice, and the best stories. The trick was determining which stories were historically accurate and which stories were purely for your entertainment. Doyle/Dad/Grandpa was loved and will be missed.

Doyle is survived by his daughter, Master Sergeant (ret, AF) Lisa Wright and two sons, Doyle W. Wright III and Robert S. Wright. He is also survived by 4 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and 3 sisters Sue (Ken) Stone, Josi (Troy) Schlie and Barbara (Shaun) Condon. Doyle was preceded in death by a daughter Gabrielle Marie Wright (1976), his wife Sharon Sue (Morris) Wright (2013), a sister Patricia Ann Hatfield (2018), his mom Betty June (Grey) Wright (2000), and his dad Doyle Wright Sr. (1944).

A Celebration of Life was held at Zahoran Funeral Home on Friday, June 28th at 3pm. To leave an online condolence, please visit our website at www.zahoran.com.
