On Friday, June 25, 2021, Peter Clyde Womer, loving husband, father and grandpa, passed away at the age of 76.
Peter was born on August 31, 1944 in South Bend, Indiana to Clyde W. and Shirley (Hohmann) Womer. He graduated from Central High School in 1962 and attended the University of Indianapolis before enlisting in the Navy. He served aboard the USS Henry Clay. After service 7 years, he returned to start working in the Campus Control Department at the University of Notre Dame Power Plant for 38 years. As a long-time member of Clay Church, he recently retired from the sound and lighting team.
Peter was an active volunteer in many things including the Red Cross, Special Olympics, R.E.A.C.T. and Emmaus. He volunteered at the Museum of Science and Industry for 10 years and more recently at the Railroad Museum in Elkhart, Indiana.
Everyone Peter met was an instant friend to him. He loved to share stories about his volunteer work, his family including his submarine family, and everything in his life. He enjoyed watching TV in his chair and taking a daily nap or two.
Peter was preceded in death by his father, Clyde, and his mother, Shirley. He is survived by his wife, Jean; his daughters, Pam "PJ" Wilfing (Joe), Sara Hawn (Jay), and Liz DeMeester (Dan); his step-children, Tish Bartlet (Tom), Karen Dugan (Danny), Mark Zander (Tina), and Janet Vaught (Charlie); his siblings, William Womer, David Womer (Connie), and Pam (Danny); and 13 grandchildren.
Visitation will be at Clay Church, 52866 Ironwood Rd., South Bend, IN 46638 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM on July 3, 2021. The service will follow at 1:00 PM. There will be a private family burial at Portage Prairie Cemetery following.
