SHIPSHEWANA - James William Weldon, 67, of Shipshewana, died at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 18, 2011, at his home. He was born March 4, 1944, in South Bend, to Richard C. & Evelyn R. (Claflin) Weldon.

On July 18, 1986, in Middlebury, he married Lena M. Niswonger, who died on July 1, 2011, in Mishawaka, IN. Surviving are 2 daughters, Debra (Jim) Barnett of Granger, Juli (Ted) Hodowaniec of New Carlisle, IN; 2 sons, James David Weldon of Chicago and Brian Joseph (Robin) Weldon of Mishawaka. Also 1 stepson, Jerry D. (Candis) Oswalt Jr. of South Bend; 10 grandchildren, Brina Miltenberger, Kyle Miltenberger, Shea Hodowaniec, Kailee Hodowaniec, Dainon Hodowaniec, James Barnett, Alayna Barnett, Brian Weldon, Jerry D. Oswalt III and Cody Oswalt; 1 brother, John Richard Weldon of Elkhart; 1 sister, Cheri (Marty) Kopczynski of White Pigeon, MI; and 1 half brother, Richard Weldon of FL.

James graduated in 1962 from South Bend Central High School; he enjoyed reading, was a member of the Sons of the American Legion Squad #1043 in Bristol and he loved spending time with his grandchildren. Jim worked for Dodge Manufacturing in Mishawaka, Leer Truck Caps and Sibley's. He retired in 2005 from Robert Weed Plywood in Bristol.

Visitation will be from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 8, 2011, at the Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th Street, Mishawaka. A Celebration of Life Service will take place at 4:00 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Pastor Bob Vale from the Osceola United Methodist Church will preside.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association . Elkhart Cremation Services is entrusted with arrangements.
