SOUTH BEND - Carolyn "Snookie" Ehlert, 69, of Union, Michigan, formally of South Bend, Indiana, passed away on Saturday, March 8, 2014, in Naples, Florida, following a brave battle with pancreatic cancer.
Carolyn was born in South Bend, on February 22, 1945, the daughter of Michael and Helen Sacchini. She was a graduate of South Bend Central High School and was very popular with all her classmates. Carolyn is survived by her loving husband, Larry Ehlert, her mom, Helen "Granny" Holton and father, Michael Sacchini, both of South Bend. She is also survived by her son, Erik Hurwick, of Indianapolis, stepson, John (Rosie) Ehlert of Pleasanton, California, stepson, Dave (Kim) Ehlert of Niles, Michigan, stepdaughter, Deb (Joe) Kachik of Westminster, Maryland, grandchildren, Austin Ehlert, Sabrina Ehlert, David Ehlert and Anna Kachik, brothers Michael J. (Barbara) Sacchini, Joey (Melanie) Alexander, sisters Patricia Henry and Jeannine (Hank) Groot, Uncle Lawrence Firmani, Aunt Maxine Shively, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Carolyn "Snookie" Ehlert was a warm, beautiful, gentle and loving person who was loved by anyone who met her. She and her husband, Larry, shared a beautiful and loving life together. Carolyn and Larry loved being with family and friends and had wonderful summers at their home on Baldwin Lake in Michigan. Carolyn's loving and sincere personality had an impact on everyone she knew. She will be so greatly missed, but she will be a part of us forever.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated 11:00 am Tuesday, May 6, 2014 at St. Jude Parish, 19704 Johnson Road, South Bend 46614-5441. A gathering of family and friends will take place immediately after the service at American Legion Post 357, 5414 West Sample Street, South Bend. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Carolyn's memory can be made to either Avow Hospice, 1095 Whippoorwill Lane, Naples, Florida 34105, or to St. Jude Parish.
