In Memory
John Alan Robaska
January 30, 1944 ~ May 28, 2025 81 Years Old
John Alan Robaska passed away May 28, 2025, in Mishawaka, IN, at the age of 81. Born January 30, 1944, in South Bend, IN, to the late Alfred and Helen (Balok) Robaska, John’s life was marked by service and adventure.
John grew up in a close-knit family alongside his sister Sandy (Bill) Trobaugh of South Bend and his brother Michael (Diane) Robaska of Granger, IN. After graduating from Central High School in 1962, John served two years in the U.S. Army in Korea during the Vietnam conflict.
Upon returning to civilian life, John held various occupations. But perhaps his favorite role was as a driver. Visitors to South Bend and the University of Notre Dame—including dignitaries and celebrities—relied on his transportation services. And he regularly shuttled area residents around town, to regional airports and, on several occasions, across the country. A man who always knew what was going on in the world, he could engage in conversation on any topic. Not surprisingly, he made many friends during these drives.
An adventurer, nature lover and fitness buff, John was an avid cyclist. He biked throughout town, road the highways to his favorite beach destinations and, more than once, biked to Indianapolis. He treasured his midnight rides, where he and other cycling enthusiasts would pedal from South Bend into downtown Chicago.
When stationary, John enjoyed old TV series. A Trekkie, he caught the reruns, recorded them, and watched them on repeat. Flying kites also brought him great joy and relaxation, a perfect pastime after a long ride to the beach. Though never one to be pinned down, John kept strong connections with family and friends. Blowing in like a surprise gust of wind, and out the same, was his signature.
John is survived by his siblings, his nieces, Jessica (Kerry) Temple, Stephanie (Travis) Samuels and Mallory Robaska, and nephew Jacob Robaska. Following John’s wishes, there will be no public service. Palmer Funeral Home – Welsheimer North Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
