SOUTH BEND - Dr. Frank E. Millar III, son of Frank and Irene Millar (both deceased), passed away Wednesday, Jan. 11th, in his home in Laramie, Wyoming, with his wife Vanessa at his bedside. He had been ill with cancer for more than a year. Dr. Millar was 67 years old.

Frank was born in South Bend, Indiana, in 1944. He attended Marquette Elementary School, Muessel Junior High, and Central High School where he lettered as a guard and linebacker on the Bears' football team. He graduated with a B.A. degree in Psychology from Wabash College, and then received his Ph.D. in Communication from Michigan State University. After completing his Ph.D., he taught at MSU and Cleveland State University.

He moved to the University of Wyoming in the late 1980s. He served for several years as chairperson of the Department of Communication at UWY, and a term as chairperson of the Academic Senate. He published more than 50 articles, a book, and book chapters primarily in the area of interpersonal communication. He continued teaching at UWY despite his illness, recently completing the fall semester.

He is survived by his wife, Vanessa Taulo-Millar, and his first wife, Susan Millar, and their children, Frank Michael Millar and Jennifer Millar Shuck, both of South Bend. He is survived by four grandchildren, Alexandria, Victoria and Jillian, Brett. He is also survived by his brother, Dan Millar of Indianapolis; cousins, William of North Liberty, David and Douglas of New Carlisle, Ann Garvey of Waterford, VA, Margaret Chang of Bainbridge Island, WA, and Bruce Scrogin of Jacksonville, FL.

A memorial service for family and friends will be held in the spring.

In lieu of flowers, Frank's family encourages donations to the Frank Millar Excellence Fund, c/o the Department of Communication, University of Wyoming, 1000 E University Ave., Laramie, WY 82071.
