Dave Webb - Class Of 1961 VIEW PROFILE

Dave Webb

David Webb

David Webb, 81 years old, peacefully passed away on Wednesday, August 16, 2023 at the Center for Hospice Raclin House in Mishawaka.

David was born on June 12, 1942 in Mishawaka, to the late Paul and Helen (Wickey) Webb. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Judith Tirotta; and his brother, Robert Webb.

Left to cherish their memory of David is his loving wife of 60 years, Betty (Smead) Webb; his children, David Webb, Stephen Webb, and Laura Webb; his grandchildren. Elizabeth Webb, Joshua (Hannah) Webb, Samantha (Brett) Kershner, Melissa Shank, and Steven Webb; his great-grandchildren, Sophia Webb, Judah Webb; sisters, Dorothy (Steve) Boszanyi and Mary Eddy; and his daughter-in-law, Tammy Stevens. David is also survived by another great-grandchild being born November of this year.

From childhood, Dave loved being around the water and enjoyed swimming and fishing on the St. Joseph River, Barron Lake, and Lake Michigan. He was a graduate from South Bend Central High School in 1961.

His love for being on the water continued as after high school he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. In 1962, he married his high school sweetheart, Betty Smead. Betty and her handsome sailor began an eight-year adventure being stationed in San Antonio, Texas; Norfolk, Virginia; Treasure Island, California; and Oahu, Hawaii. Out of Norfolk, he sailed on the USS Long Beach, USS Chilton, and USS Wright. Upon being discharged from the Navy, he worked and retired from the Kroger Company as a vendor representative. He then worked for the Greater Mishawaka Auto Auction as a driver until 2020.

Dave had a quirky sense of humor, and it was never clear if he was serious or not. His grandchildren loved hearing about his many antics in childhood (and beyond) and his Navy experiences. He enjoyed going to the Blue Chip and Four Winds Casinos and did so until Covid struck. Dave also attended St. Mark Missionary Church until recently, because of Covid and his Alzheimer’s worsening.

Due to his love of the water, his pride in his Naval service, and per his request; his ashes will be scattered on the Atlantic Ocean with memorial service being held there. Thus, no local service or visitation will be held.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to St. Joseph Funeral Home & Cemetery, 824 S Mayflower Road South Bend, IN 46619.

Online condolences can be made at sjfh.net.
