Frank L. Springer Sr., age 78, passed away at his home on Sunday, August 15, 2021.  Frank was born October 7, 1942, in South Bend, Indiana to the late Frank M. and Athelene Springer.  He was a graduate of South Bend Central High School.  As a young man, Frank achieved the rank of Eagle Scout where he learned many different skills. One of the most important skills he learned as an Eagle Scout was leadership. His hard-working demeanor, honesty and integrity led him to a position as a regional accounts manager for the Seyfert Potato Products company, covering Indiana, Ohio and Michigan, for over 30 years.  While traveling for work, he met Linda J. Welton, the front desk clerk of the Holiday Inn in Maumee, Ohio.  Linda and Frank exchanged numbers and soon after, she moved to South Bend where they were married on November 30, 1996.  Linda and Frank were eagerly anticipating their 25th anniversary. 

Linda survives, along with Frank’s sons Frank (Claudia) Springer Jr. of Grand Haven, Michigan, Dean (Mary) Springer and Christopher Springer, both of South Bend, and his stepson, C. Bradley (Beverly) Stossel of Findlay, Ohio.  Frank is also survived by 9 grandchildren: Courtney, Trevor, Paige, Kyle (Clair), Jacob, Morgan, Olivia, Grace and Evelyn, and 2 great-grandchildren, Grant and Gabriella.  He was preceded in death by his first wife Mary Ellen (Spromgberg) Springer in 1994 and his sisters Sharon and Suzie.

There will be no formal services for Frank, but the family asks that you remember him in your own special way. Cruz Family Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Osceola is assisting with the details.

In retirement, Frank enjoyed fishing, gardening and spending time at home with his wife.  An animal lover as well, Frank spoiled his pets Smoke, Mali and Rhys beyond measure.  Frank also enjoyed being outdoors and for the past five years, he stood faithfully in all kinds of Indiana weather serving as a Crossing Guard for the South Bend Community Schools.

Most of all, Frank was a loving husband, father and grandfather who put his family above all else.  Throughout his life, he enjoyed being a Cub Scout leader, coaching his sons and other young men on the football field, and as his sons became adults, he began the traditions of traveling each year to Canada to spend on the lakes with them, fishing and finding adventure. 

In lieu of flowers, donations be made in Frank’s name to Heartland Hospice or to Michiana Hematology and Oncology Center in Mishawaka for the care and concern shown to the Springer family during Frank’s time of need.
