SOUTH BENDBilly LNewsom, 69, of South Bend, IN passed away at 1:30 a.m. Wednesday, December 26, 2012 in his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on April 25, 1943 in South Bend, IN to Delvin and Geraldine (McAlexander) Newsom. On September 27, 2008, at Little Flower Catholic Church, South Bend, IN he married Esther Costello.

Mr. Newsom is survived by his wife, Esther; two daughters, Bethany (Evan) Holmgren of South Bend, IN and Sara (Maurice) Battles of South Bend, IN; four grandchildren, Preston and Dustin Battles and Bevan and Ean Delvin Holmgren; ten stepchildren; twenty-two step-grandchildren and brother, Ronnie (Violet) Newsom of Niles, MI. He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, Judith Newsom, second wife, Rae Newsom and his baby brother, Johnie Allen Newsom who passed away at birth.

Mr. Newsom was a lifelong resident. He graduated from Central High School, then attended Purdue University and IUSB. He was a career truck driver for Redi Froz.

4-H played a big part in his life. He was a 10 year member, 4-H Leader and lifelong supporter. He was a dedicated small farmer who worked closely with the farming community. After retirement he started collecting, restoring, and selling antique tractors with his family. He was a member of the Michiana Two-Cylinder Club. He enjoyed taking his tractors to area parades and fairs.

Bill lived his life and faith caring for others. He took care of his wife of 31 years, Judy, while she was ill. In his courageous 2 year battle with cancer his loving wife, Esther, and family cared for him.

A Memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 31, 2012 at Lakeville United Methodist Church, 610 N. Michigan St., Lakeville, IN. Friends may visit one hour prior to the services. Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel is assisting the family.
