John L. Coleman passed away peacefully after a long illness on Friday, February 7, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family and friends.
John was born in South Bend, IN, on October 5, 1942, to John and Vesta Coleman. He attended South Bend Central (Class of 1961) and graduated from Indiana State University. John began his career in radio and TV in his hometown of South Bend. He interviewed The Beatles during their first visit to the U.S. in 1964 while deejaying at WJVA. John had a memorable broadcast career and managed radio stations across the Midwest. He was the voice of the Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra broadcast on WFYI for 15 years. John was a great storyteller and had a knack for connecting with people.
John treasured multiple visits to Scotland and Ireland, to explore his family's history. His father immigrated from Scotland to the U.S. in 1900.
John will live in the hearts of his wife, Connie Coil Coleman and family, Martin Coleman and Sarah Blackman, his grandchildren, Georgia and Ivor Coleman, of Indianapolis, Sarah and Rich Woodmansee of Carmel and his family by choice, Troy and Petrea Aeschliman, Seth and Brooke, of Mooresville, NC. John will also be fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews in the South Bend.
Connie and her family were blessed by the love and support from the caregivers at Restoracy of Carmel, together with Legacy Hospice.
John's family will celebrate his life on Sunday, February 23, 2025, 3:00p - 6:00p, at The Woodlands Club House, 10700 Lakeshore Drive East, Carmel, where friends are invited to share memories of John.
