David A. Miller
David A. Miller passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 9, 2024 in his sleep. He was born in South Bend, Indiana, to the late Karyld and Marcille Miller on January 1, 1939.
In Camden, Indiana, on January 2, 1976 he married Alice Leslie. Living in the neighborhood the grew up as the altar boy on call at the Cathedral of St. James. As his faith grew, he was elected to the Chapter (the church council) and to Senior Warden. When Alice’s sister returned from a Lutheran Cursillo, we wanted what she had. Our pastor, Father Bob, sponsored Dave and Alice for an Episcopal Cursillo. That opened the door for other Fourth Day groups. He was Lay Director of an Episcopal Cursillo weekend, He was on the organizing board for Chrysalis of Emmaus Walk, we were President Couple of DeColores and Dave was Lay Director of a weekend in Michigan. He was working with a group to develop a weekend for older adults.
When his friends and Colleagues realized his leadership potential and willingness to serve, they frequently elected him to leadership positions. During his lifetime he achieved many awards. He was Commodore of Diamond Lake Yacht Club (Diamond Lake, Michigan), Lifetime member of National Association of Life Underwriters, Life Underwriter of the year in 1964. President and Life Member of CLU and CHFC, member of Masonic Lodge 45, and member of Scottish Rite for which he received the Award of Gold in 2000. Dave enjoyed model railroading, fishing, swimming, sailing, skiing, cooking and trap shooting.
Memorial Services for David will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, July 20, 2024, at The Cathedral of St. James 117 N. Lafayette Blvd. South Bend, IN 46601. Friends may visit with family 1 hour prior to the service. Palmer Funeral Home – Welsheimer North Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
