Romeo Martin, Jr.

October 29, 1937 ~ July 25, 2020 (age 82)

Mr. Romeo Martin, Jr., 82, passed away peacefully on the morning of Saturday, July 25, 2020 at West Bend Nursing and Rehab. Romeo was born to the late Romeo and Sylvester (Wilson) Martin, Sr., in South Bend, Indiana on October 29, 1937.

Romeo was the second oldest to eleven siblings. He attended Linden Elementary and graduated from Central High School, where he was a remarkable football player.  Romeo loved watching football and Notre Dame was his favorite team.  He enlisted in the United States Army in 1960 and proudly served his country during the Vietnam era, after which he was honorably discharged. On September 12, 1989, Romeo married the love of his life, Edna Hill. They were together for over 50 years before Edna preceded him in death on April 24, 2010.  He also helped raise his stepchildren, Al Hill and Johnnie Banks. Romeo accepted Christ as his personal Savior in 2019. He was a beloved stepfather, god father, brother, cousin and friend. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Cherishing Romeo’s memories are his sister, Martine Martin of San Diego, California; god daughter Mrs. Cynthia (Maurice) Burton of South Bend; first cousin Robert Adair (Pete) of California; Douglas Wilson (Ferdie) of Dallas, Texas; Donnie Joe Harris of Delaware and Brenda Doxie of Delaware; god sons Thomas Hyde and Gary McKinney; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

In addition to his wife and parents, Romeo was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters: Mary, Michael, Timothy, Frederick, Darryl, Judy, Harriet, Linda, and Phillip.

Romeo was respected by all who knew him, he will greatly be missed by his community. The family would like to thank West Bend Nursing Rehabilitation and Fresenius Kidney Care staff for the loving care, patience and love that was shown to our uncle and friend.

Services for Mr. Romeo Martin, Jr. will be held on Friday, July 31, 2020 at 1:00 PM at Palmer Funeral Homes – West Chapel, 2702 Lincoln Way West, South Bend, IN 46628. Friends may call on the family for one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made in Romeo's honor to American Kidney Fund,11921 Rockville Pike, Suite 300, Rockville, MD 20852.
