Barbara R. Hotchkiss (Ranes)

Barbara R. Ranes

Feb. 1, 1939 - Sep. 12, 2020

Barbara R. Ranes, 81, of Weeki Wachee, Florida passed away Saturday, September 12, 2020. She was born in Detroit, Michigan to Robert and Ruth Hotchkiss.

“Bobbye Jo” grew up in South Bend, Indiana and graduated from Central HS in 1957. She attended Purdue University where she met her husband, Dick. After college, they lived in Middle River, Maryland; Middletown, Ohio; and Simi Valley, California before moving to Weeki Wachee. She was a stay-at-home mom while raising her four incredible children and then worked for Rockwell in California as an executive secretary. Bobbye enjoyed softball and was very involved in coaching Little Miss softball.

She enjoyed travelling by sea, air and RV. She loved NASCAR and Dale Jr. She was an avid camper and drove her own camper to many races all across the country. It was her NASCAR friends that gave her the nickname, Bobbye Jo. She was a lifelong Elvis fan but later also became interested in old country music and dancing. For the last several years she became passionate about tenor music, particularly that of Andrea Bocelli. But, she cherished her kids and grandkids above all else. Their well-being was her constant focus. Those lucky enough to know her will remember Bobbye for her energy, wit, occasional sarcasm, serious independence and fearlessness. She was an avid reader and would probably want it on the record that she was conservative and a huge fan of President Trump. She was of the Christian faith and will be dearly missed by her loving family and many friends.

She is survived by her husband Richard L. Ranes; sons Stephen Ranes, Michael Ranes (Elissa); daughters Brenda Roberts (Hugh), Penny Jones (Timothy); brothers Gardner Hotchkiss (Novia), Dwight Hotchkiss (Angie); and seven grandchildren; Brooke, Zackery, Alex (Shaylin), Brett, Bryce, Max and Isabella. She was anxiously awaiting the birth of her first great grandchild but will have to enjoy that from Heaven.

Visitation will be 10-11AM Saturday, September 26th followed by a service located at Turner Funeral Home at 14360 Spring Hill Drive; Spring Hill, Florida. A luncheon in Bobbye’s honor will be held at VFW Post 10209, 14736 Edward R. Noll Drive, Spring Hill after the service.
