Richard "Rick" Charles Borowski

March 9, 1940 - April 17, 2014

SOUTH BEND - Richard "Rick" Charles Borowski was born in South Bend, Indiana, on March 9, 1940. He died on vacation in Mexico on April 17, 2014.

Preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Evelyn Borowski, his grandson, Ryan Locklar, and former wife, Patricia Badowski Borowski.

Survived by his wife, Gene Bearden Borowski; his daughters, Linda (Ricky) Locklar, Peggy (Jonathan) Greenlaw, and stepson, Johnathan (Danielle) Urschel. Grandchildren, Ian Locklar, Nathan and Sarah Greenlaw and Jack Urschel. His siblings, Paul/Carol Borowski, Carol Green, Anne (Mike) Casini, Kevin (Michele) Borowski and Maureen Breed, 12 nieces & nephews and their families.

He died as he lived, doing what he loved with no excuses. Graduated from Central HS, a Marine at age 17, worked on the Mercury/Apollo/Saturn programs at Cape Canaveral, FL, raced at Daytona Speedway, raced motorcycles until age 47, had long career at IBM in Montgomery, AL. He then became a volunteer Fireman, spent 13 years as Fire Chief and at the age 72 broke 160 mph at Talladega Speedway. Rick enjoyed bowling, hunting, traveling, riding his bicycle, boating, scuba diving and working on cars. His greatest joy came from his family and we will all miss his smile, love and support which he gave so freely.

A celebration of his life will occur in July. Donations may be made in his honor to Windermere Fire Department, Alexander City, Alabama.
