MISHAWAKA - David Walter Thornton, 74, passed away on Monday, October 22nd, in St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, Mishawaka. David was born on October 14, 1938, in South Bend, to Russell and Margaret (Dorschner) Thornton, who preceded him in death.

Surviving are two daughters, Janice (Bernie Drinsky) Swan of Mishawaka and Barbara (Dale) Whitfield of Mishawaka; four grandchildren, Thomas Swan of Mishawaka, Nicholas Swan of Mishawaka, Heather (Danny) McClain of Osceola and Joel Drinsky of Mishawaka; four great-grandchildren, Aiden, Layla, Damien and Imogene Swan; and two brothers, Daniel (Jackie) Thornton of South Bend and Thomas (Judy) Thornton of Osceola.

Also surviving is his former wife and current friend, Louise Thornton. He also leaves behind his cat, Ozzie.

David was a Supervisor in the Library at Notre Dame for 20 years before he retired. He was a United States Navy veteran. He loved to fish, dance, play golf and watch car races. He loved animals and watching Notre Dame football.

Visitation will be on Friday, October 26, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. in Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th Street. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home following the visitation at 12:00 p.m., with Rev. Jim Bayer officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery, South Bend.
