Henry A. Taghon, Jr.

SOUTH BEND, IN - Henry A. Taghon, Jr., 83, of South Bend, IN, passed away at 1:21 p.m. Monday, May 17, 2021 at Memorial Hospital in South Bend, IN, following an illness.

He was born on February 18, 1938 to the late Henry A., Sr. and Ruth (Rupp) Taghon in South Bend, IN, and was a lifelong resident.

Henry graduated in 1956 from Central High School in South Bend, IN. He worked as a UPS Truck Driver for 33 years, before retiring in 1998.

On June 20, 1959, he married his high school sweetheart Anita E. Rybak at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in South Bend, IN. She passed away on October 12, 2001.

Henry is survived by his daughter, Debra (Stewart) Spratt of South Bend, IN; son, Jeff (Dawn) Taghon of South Bend, IN; three grandchildren, Michael (Heather) Steinhofer of South Bend, IN; Maureen and Makenzie Taghon, both of South Bend, IN; two great grandchildren, Hazel and Jackson Steinhofer, both of South Bend, IN; his brother, Jack Taghon of South Bend, IN; and five nieces and nephews. Not many people have a second chance at finding love later in life, but Henry was lucky enough to have found that love with his fiancé, Jackie Umbaugh of South Bend, IN.

Henry was a lifelong member of Corpus Christi Parish in South Bend and was a U.S. Army Veteran. He was an avid Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears fan. Henry enjoyed fishing and bowling. Bowling was his passion, where he bowled in three different leagues at the same time and bowled two scores of 299 and one score of 298. Henry was a very caring and generous man who always put others before himself. He kept his sense of humor all the way up until the end of his life, leaving smiles on our faces for the rest of eternity. He will be dearly missed.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Sunday, May 23, 2021 at Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, IN.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:00 a.m. Monday, May 24, 2021 at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, with Rev. Daryl Rybicki officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery.
